LATEST @ February 28 | Police have now identified the body of a woman who was found washed up on a beach on the Gold Coast.

A member of the public made the shock discovery at the Spit in Main Beach around 9am on Tuesday, sparking a major emergency response.

As the woman had not been reported missing, officers struggled to determine her identity.

They launched a public appeal for information Tuesday afternoon, which included releasing images of the woman’s belongings.

On Wednesday morning, Gold Coast Police confirmed they had now managed to identify her.

The woman is believed to have drowned while out on a morning swim, with police declaring the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Investigations are ongoing.

LATEST @ 4.50PM | Police have launched an appeal for public information as they work to identify the body of a woman who washed up on a popular Gold Coast beach.

The grim discovery was made by a member of public around 9am at the Spit in Main Beach.

The woman is believed to have drowned while out on a morning swim, with police declaring the death is not being treated as suspicious.

“Investigations are underway to identify the woman, who is described as Asian in appearance, believed to be around 50-60 years old with short dark hair,” a QPS statement reads.

“She was wearing a red, black and pink one-piece swimsuit,

“Police are appealing for anyone who may recognise any of the items in the photos below or have information about the incident to contact police.”

Images have been released of some of the woman’s belongings in hopes someone may recognise the items.

Investigations are continuing.

EARLIER @ 11.30AM | A major investigation has been launched after the body of a woman washed up on a Gold Coast beach.

Emergency services were called to The Spit at Main Beach following the grim discovery around 9am.

The woman was declared deceased on scene.

It’s not yet clear when or where the woman entered the water.

A QPS spokesperson has told myGC there is no further information available at this time.

Investigations are continuing.
