The Gold Coast’s popular on-demand bus service will be guaranteed and expanded should the Labor party return to power in next month’s election.

The program, which currently services residents in Pacific Pines, Nerang, Highland Park, and parts of Worongary, would be locked in for another four years.

It’d also be extended to cover Mount Nathan, Gaven and Carrara.

The service allows users to be picked up at a time that suits them, either from their home or at a pickup point nearby, and connects commuters to major transport hubs and shopping centres.

Gaven MP Meaghan Scanlon has told myGC the on-demand service has been backed by locals.

“There’s been 184,000 trips taken so far, and almost 100% of people say they’re likely to continue using it in the future, while 95% of users say they’re advocates for the service,” Minister Scanlon says.

“This was a trial, so you always anticipate that there might be some teething issues so these statistics are really fantastic to see,

“It’s an accessible and cheap public transport option for people to be able to get to the local shops, but importantly to also connect them to the light rail and heavy rail.”

The service is included in the State Government’s 50c public transport scheme, which is set to be made permanent.
