The man who murdered Gold Coast schoolgirl Charlise Mutten has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
It comes after Justin Stein was found guilty by a jury in June of shooting dead the 9-year-old at a property in the NSW Blue Mountains in January 2022.
The 33-year-old shot the little girl “execution style” before dumping her body in a barrel in bushland.
It remains unknown exactly why he killed his ex-fiancee’s daughter, who lived with her grandparents in Tweed Heads and was visiting the pair over the Christmas school holidays.
In handing down the sentence in Sydney’s Supreme Court on Monday, Justice Helen Wilson said the crime was “gravely reprehensible” and that Stein showed no remorse and had no prospects of rehabilitation.
She said the maximum life penalty was the only appropriate penalty.
