Police are on the hunt for a group of wannabe thieves, accused of raiding cars in Mermaid Waters while armed.
A 50-year-old man woke to find men rifling through his vehicle on Hood Court around 4.30am on Boxing Day, before running out and startling them.
Two other men then ganged up on him with a bat and knife, before a brawl erupted.
The 50-year-old man suffered a stab wound to his hand.
Five men fled the scene in two vehicles, one of them stolen, a silver BMW X4 and white Mazda CX-3.
The BMW was reported stolen from a Helensvale address this morning, while the Mazda has not been reported stolen at this stage.
The group remain on the run, with investigations ongoing.
