Thousands of Gold Coasters flocked to Surfers Paradise beach on Saturday night to catch SeaFire and watch Sweden and Germany battle it out for the prestigous surfboard trophy.
Surfers was the place to be with restaurants jam packed, apartments on the coastline booked out and and almost every square inch of beach taken to see our very own international fireworks competition happen overhead.
“SeaFire has become one of our city’s most highly anticipated events for both locals and visitors,” Acting Mayor Donna Gates told Hot Tomato earlier this week.
“Since the inaugural SeaFire in 2012 we have seen over half a million spectators enjoy the event,” she added.
Discussing what goes into the event, Nick Kozij from Skylighter Fireworx explains that there’s “Probably about four and half to five tonnes worth of fireworks. Each team can only use a certain amount and they can use different effects essentially to keep it fair.”
Germany were the overall winners on the night, with Nick and his team adding a spectacular bit of Aussie flavour to round out the show.
