Some of the Gold Coast’s leading business and political figures have been appointed to the board of the city’s new tourism, events, arts and education body.

Experience Gold Coast brings together Destination Gold Coast, Major Events Gold Coast, Study Gold Coast, HOTA and Placemakers.

Former Queensland Premier Rob Borbidge has been appointed as Chair of the new entity.

He had also served as the Chair of Study Gold Coast.

Former Queensland Tourism Minister and current Rugby League Commissioner Kate Jones will also sit on the board.

They’ll be joined by leading Gold Coast businesswoman and Gold Coast Titans co-owner Rebecca Frizelle who had previously sat on the board of Destination Gold Coast.

Village Roadshow CEO Clark Kirby is also among those appointed.

The others seats on the board will be taken up by former Major Events director Jackie Cross, former Destination Gold Coast director Adam Twemlow, former HOTA board member Danielle McFall-Weiss and former Placemakers CEO Louise Bezzina.

Mayor Tom Tate and Council CEO Tim Baker will also form part of the board.

The board members were chosen from more than 100 people who had expressed interest.

“We are confident we have an extremely committed and passionate group who understand the vision we have for this entity and the Gold Coast,” Mayor Tate said.

“This is a really exciting time for the Gold Coast as we look towards 2032 and we need to keep our eye on the ball, leveraging every opportunity that comes our way.”
