The Gold Coast continues to cement itself as the new ‘Hollywood’ with another blockbuster film set to begin shooting on the glitter strip.

Screen Queensland has confirmed that Amazon MGM Studios’ Voltron movie will start filming at Village Roadshow Studios in Oxenford later this month.

Superman star Henry Cavill leads the all-star cast alongside the likes of Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Rita Ora, John Kim, Alba Baptista, Samson Kayo and Tharanya Tharan.

Cavill, known for his iconic roles in The Witcher and Man of Steel, was recently spotted at Heathrow Airport in England, believed to be headed down under.

Co-written by Thurber and Ellen Shanman, Voltron: Defender of the Universe is a live-action adaptation of the popular animated series from the ’80s.

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said she was pleased to welcome Amazon MGM Studios back to the Gold Coast.

“We are delighted that our Production Attraction Strategy has secured another high calibre project for Queensland,” she said.

“A film production of significant scale creating impressive screen worlds, which will again showcase the skills of our talented local crew, cast and stunt workers to a global audience”.

Arts Minister and Surfers Paradise MP John-Paul Langbroek said it’s another major coup for the city.

“Securing this major production will ensure the continued growth of the local screen industry and further bolster the Gold Coast’s international reputation as a global screen production destination,” he said.

“I look forward to Amazon MGM’s production of Voltron commencing filming and its welcome injection of more than $100 million to Queensland’s economy including hundreds of screen industry jobs and a significant boost for local businesses”.
