Transport is one of the most important issues facing the Gold Coast right now, particularly as our city continues to grow.
To prepare for the future, the City of Gold Coast is currently refreshing the City Transport Strategy to meet demand, address congestion, whilst protecting and enhancing the lifestyle that makes the Gold Coast a great place to live and visit.
Locals are being encouraged to share their thoughts to help shape the strategy via an online survey.
Mayor Tom Tate said he wants to hear from every resident about what transport issues are important to them.
“The Gold Coast lifestyle is the envy of every other city in Australia so it’s no wonder we’re estimated to grow from 650,000 people to more than 1 million by 2041,” said Mayor Tate.
“This population surge requires us to ensure we get transport right. Addressing traffic congestion will require not only new infrastructure but clever new thinking that doesn’t always include a private motor vehicle.”
Mayor Tate said this shift had already begun with the uptake of electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, ride-sharing and e-mobility technology.
“Ultimately, the way we move is changing. Our access needs and challenges are evolving, sustainable solutions are a priority and emerging technologies are increasing,” he said.
“This is our opportunity to deliver a strategy for the future and we need input to protect the lifestyle that makes the coast a great place to live, work and visit. The future of transport is in your hands.”
Gold Coasters can have a say on the future of transport on the Gold Coast at gchaveyoursay.com.au/transport. The survey will only take a few minutes to complete, and you have the opportunity to enter the draw for the chance to win one of five $500 EFTPOS gift cards.
The survey will be live until August 14, with the results to be presented to a future Transport and Infrastructure Committee.
