The Gold Coast has scored another big music act with American rockers Green Day heading to the Glitter Strip.
The multi-Grammy award winners have announced their first Australian tour since 2017 with the band to play at C-Bus Stadium on March 5 next year in their only Queensland show.
It will also be their first time playing on the Gold Coast.
They will also play shows in Melbourne on March 1 and Sydney on March 3 before wrapping up their tour here.
Green Day is one of the best-selling bands of all time, selling more than 75 million albums while their songs have been streamed more than 10 billion times.
The band plans to play two of their biggest albums Dookie and American Idiot in full as well as songs from the new album Saviors.
“We’ve never been more excited to unleash new music than with Saviors, a record that’s meant to be rocked live, together,” the band said in a statement.
“And we can not wait to return to Australia, it’s been way too long. So let’s thrash.”
Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn says it’s a huge coup for the Gold Coast.
“We’re expecting a lot of people to travel here from across the state, and indeed the country, for the opportunity to experience the high-energy live performance this rock trio is known for,” Warn said.
Promoter Michael Coppel says fans will get a chance to experience Greenday’s “electrifying energy” live and is thrilled to be able to bring them to the Gold Coast.
“The overwhelming success of recent concerts by global superstars like Harry Styles, P!nk, and the upcoming Pearl Jam show reaffirms the Gold Coast’s position as a thriving hub for live entertainment,” Coppel said.
Acting Mayor Donna Gates says it’s another win for the city.
“For the past decade, we have worked tirelessly to attract more global music events to the coast,’’ Councillor Gates said.
“Our hard work is paying dividends with major acts now including the coast on their national and international tour schedules. Hats off to Live Nation and Experience Gold Coast for securing Green Day for Cbus Super Stadium. It’ll be a packed house.’’
Presale tickets go on sale on Monday, September 16 while general public tickets will go on sale on Friday, September 20.
