The Gold Coast will receive a major boost to its community green space, with $22 million from the budget allocated to the city’s Greenheart master plan.
Greenheart will feature playgrounds, sporting fields, nature walks and an event site big enough to hold large outdoor concerts and festivals.
The funding was announced on Tuesday morning when the city’s 2022-23 budget was handed down, with $6.6 million coming from this year’s budget and an additional $15.4 million expected in the 2023-24 budget.
Built on the green space between Robina and Merrimac, in what will be the largest natural park infrastructure project ever undertaken by the City.
Mayor Tom Tate believes the space will be a huge asset to have on the Gold Coast.
“This will be a signature parkland for the entire SEQ region,” Mayor Tate says
“It’s a 241-hectare parcel of land that will take a decade to fully develop but will add incredible community space between Robina and Merrimac.”
Stage 1 (Robina City Parklands) is located in the green space beside CBUS Super Stadium, and will include two giant adventure play areas, a water play area, an event lawn, a cafe and scooter/bike tracks.
Deputy Mayor Donna Gates thinks the project is a very exciting endeavour, which offers something for everyone.
“We are going to see the beautiful wetlands retained, some culture and heritage items retained,” Cr Gates says.
“Walking trails, cycling trails… it’s so exciting.”
Construction on Stage 1 of the project will start in early 2023.
The whole project will be six times the size of the Broadwater Parklands in Southport.

- Event quarter that can hold over 50,000 people
- Sporting fields and facilities catering for over 4,000 participants
- Kilometres of walking paths and open spaces
- Giant playgrounds and water play areas
- Easy access from the m1 and train
