Gold Coast motorists are warned of a number of road closures in Main Beach ahead of Australia Day celebrations.
Large crowds are expected to gather for parties at The Spit on Thursday.
Moondarewa Spit access road at the intersection with the Doug Jennings Park Ring Road will be closed from 8pm Wednesday January 25 to 4pm Thursday January 26.
Police may also close the Doug Jennings Park Ring Road depending on how chaotic the traffic flow is on the day.
Anyone travelling in the vicinity should expect lengthy delays due to large volumes of traffic and diversions that will be in place.
“Police have been working with stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption to traffic and to ensure public safety standards can be maintained,” a QPS statement reads.
“Police will also be monitoring and addressing any antisocial behaviour, particularly in regard to liquor offences,
“Members of the public are reminded they cannot consume liquor in a public place and by doing so could face fines of $137.”
