Gold Coasters are being urged put on their brightest and wackiest shirts this Loud Shirt Day to raise much-needed funds for hearing impaired children across the country.

Tomorrow is Hear and Say’s 16th annual Loud Shirt Day fundraiser, and the Queensland not-for-profit is encouraging Aussies to frock up to help cover the gap in funding to deliver primary school hearing screenings.

“We are proud to mark 16 years of Loud Shirt Day and are encouraging businesses and individuals to make some noise and raise funds for school hearing screening,” Hear and Say CEO, Greg Elphinston said.

“Each year, over 300 babies are born with hearing loss in Australia – this number doubles by the time they are school age.

“By ditching your daily wear for a loud shirt and getting your friends and workmates together, you can raise funds and help ensure every child has an opportunity to hear and speak,” he added.

This year, Hear and Say’s Loud Shirt Day is aiming to raise $250,000 to contribute to the costs of the program across the state.

QUOTA Gold Coast volunteers Marsha and Dian spoke to Hot Tomato’s Galey, Emily Jade and Christo on Thursday morning about how they are getting behind the cause.

The ladies said the community service organisation is holding a free event at Broadwater Parklands on Sunday, 6 November from 11am to help raise funds.

“We’re having music, line-dancing, we’ve got about 20 stalls with home-made cakes,” the ladies told the Breakfast crew.

“This event has no entry fee, we want people to come along, bring all the kids & grandparents and it will be a wonderful day.

“Whatever we make that day will go straight to Hear and Say”.

So rally your workplace, family & friends; whack on your loud shirts and prepare to get loud!
