The Gold Coast is prepared to “go in boots and all” to keep the Logies returning to the glitter strip indefinitely.
Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the star-studded event was hosted at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Sunday night, with calls to make the city its permanent home.
While the contract to host the event is now up, council remain confident they’ll nab the celebrity affair again with Deputy Mayor Donna Gates believing the city is the perfect fit for the event.
“It was really just a wonderful night, and everyone was so happy to be on the Gold Coast,” Cr Gates says.
“We really want to keep this event. We’ll be working really hard to make sure that we capture this event into the future for the city.”
The event is estimated to have injected a whopping amount of money into the local economy, as well as created hundreds of jobs.
“The latest figures that we have suggest about $50 million. It’s hard to quantify because there are lots of spin-off social media as well, so it may be even more than that,” Cr Gates says.
“But it’s a great weekend for the city. The hotels are much busier and everyone’s out and about so it’s great.”
The Logies was held in Melbourne for three decades, but they lost it in 2018 when the Victorian Government withdrew funding.
