Gold Coast tram drivers are set to walk off the job on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

They will strike on Friday afternoon between 4pm and 6pm due to an ongoing pay dispute.

It’s the first time trams have been hit by industrial action since they were introduced to the city in 2014.

More industrial action has been flagged for next Wednesday between 4pm and 6pm.

G:Link has warned of significant disruptions and delays to services during the action.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this action will have on our passengers, during this busy time of the year.

“G:link will continue to operate during this period of industrial action, however, there may be delays to services at certain times and trams may be operating on a reduced timetable.

Replacement bus services will be in place during the action on Friday and next Wednesday.

G:Link remains hopeful a last-minute agreement can be reached with unions to avoid the strike action.
