Authorities are urging Gold Coasters to take care today as heatwave conditions really ramp up across the city.
A heatwave warning has been issued for the South East Coast with the mercury set to soar.
The Gold Coast is bracing for a warm top of 34 degrees, but some suburbs like Nerang and Coomera could swelter through tops of 35C.
“Maximum temperatures in the mid to high thirties and overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to low twenties are expected during the late part of this week,” the Bureau of Meteorolog y said.
“The heat is likely to peak on Friday before milder conditions gradually extend across the area from Saturday, further easing heatwave conditions.”
Lachlan Parker from Queensland Ambulance said it’s important people try and stay out of the heat.
“Heatwave conditions are reasonably common in Queensland, most of us fully appreciate the risks, however, it’s when you become complacent that you can run into trouble,” he said.
“This is a timely reminder to ensure that everyone stays cool, get out of the sun, make sure you stay hydrated and avoid any drinks with excess amount of sugar or alcohol.”
Mr Parker said it’s especially important we keep a close eye on the vulnerable members of the community.
“Most importantly, look after anyone in those vulnerable groups… the elderly and the very young, and also keep an eye on your pets because they can also suffer the dreadful consequences of this heat as well”.
The feels like temperature at the Gold Coast Seaway was already 28C by 6.30am on Friday.
