Aircons and fans are expected to get a good workout across the Gold Coast over the next few days with a low intensity heatwave set to grip the city.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a heatwave warning, with the mercury forecast to soar to 37 degrees by Friday.

“We are going into a prolonged run of hot weather across the Gold Coast and large parts of surrounding areas of Queensland,” Senior Meteorologist Angus Hines told Hot Tomato.

“Because of that, we do have heatwave warnings in place for the next few days because it is hot days and pretty warm nighttime temperatures as well”.

According to the forecast, minimum temperatures are also expected to stay pretty warm, only dipping to the early 20s.

Mr Hines said the hot weather is due to a shift in wind conditions.
