Gold Coast swim stars have helped Australia assert its dominance at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham
Emma McKeon won a record-equalling 10th Commonwealth Games gold as part of our women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay team.
The Gold Coast Sports Star of the Year now joins the likes of Ian Thorpe, Liesel Jones and Susie O’Neill with 10 Commonwealth gold
The relay gold came shortly after she picked up a silver medal in the 100m butterfly.
McKeon admits it’s all a bit of a blur to her.
“I mean, my first one was 2014 and I was so young and just looking back on who I was back then, it’s just like I feel like I’ve come a long way, and I’m really proud of what I’ve done, but also proud of how I’ve grown as a person,” McKeon told Channel Seven.
“I think they’re the kinds of things that you take with you.”
Gold Coast teen Flynn Southam is basking in his gold medal as part of Australia’s winning 4 x 100m freestyle.
The 17-year-old led the Aussies off, posting a personal best time, before handing over to his teammates with Kyle Chalmers bringing them home in first place.
“That was bloody awesome. To do it with these boys. We had a good race on our hands with the English lads, but we got the job done. I’m super happy. Can’t be more happy,” Southam told Channel Seven.

While he didn’t get to stand on the dais, Cody Simpson will also take home a gold medal after swimming in the heats for the relay.
Elijah Winnington added to the gold medal he won on day one by picking up a bronze in the men’s 200m freestyle.
Southport’s Chelsea Hodges also won a bronze in the women’s 50m breaststroke.
Gold Coast-based swimmer Brendon Smith picked up bronze in the men’s 400m individual medley.
Local gymnast Georgie Godwin picked up a silver medal as part of Australia’s artistic team.
