Access to the Gold Coast’s waterways has become a little easier for boaties, with the re-opening of a central pontoon.
The Proud Park pontoon has opened today ahead of a bumper summer season on the water.
It’s located in Main Beach on the south-eastern side of Sundale Bridge.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey says they’ve made some great improvements.
“The new pontoon consists of a new larger pontoon module, gangway, abutment and pylons which caters for both recreational and commercial boating,” Minister Bailey says.
“The enhanced design improves usability, increases functionality and boosts safety with the inclusion of an upgraded rubber fender skirting the pontoon,
“It provides access to the Broadwater and Nerang River so these waterways can be easily accessed and enjoyed by local boaties and tourists.”
The pontoon was damaged in 2020 and forced to close for upgrades.
Minister Bailey says the Gold Coast’s growing population meant infrastructure needs to keep pace with the demand for access to the waterways network.
The Proud Park pontoon replacement is one of several projects being undertaken by Gold Coast Waterways Authority, as part of its $12.3 million Gold Coast Waterways Management Program, funded by the State Government.
