A Gold Coast police officer has been charged over an alleged assault while he was off duty.

The 38-year-old senior constable is facing one count of assault occasioning bodily harm over the incident, which occurred at Clear Island Waters on July 26.

A 31-year-old man, who was not known to the officer, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the alleged assault.

The officer has since been stood down with pay and is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on October 9.

“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when a member of the Service faces serious allegations of misconduct.

“This does not mean that the allegations against the member have been substantiated”.
