Gold Coast MP Meaghan Scanlon is set to be given the job of fixing Queensland’s housing crisis as part of a cabinet reshuffle.

The member for the seat of Gaven will be shifted from her current role as Environment Minister to take over as Housing Minister from Leanne Enoch who will be demoted.

Ms Scanlon has held the seat of Gaven since 2017 and is seen as a rising star of the Labor Party and a potential future Premier.

Her promotion is expected to be confirmed on Thursday when Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk locks in her new-look frontbench.

Health Minister Yvette D’ath is set to return to her old role as Attorney-General, swapping roles with Shannon Fentiman who will take on health.

Youth Justice Minister Leanne Linard will also be demoted to a junior role, with her portfolio expected to be taken by Di Farmer.

The reshuffle comes as the Premier desperately tries to address the three major issues that have been plaguing the state government – health, housing and youth crime.

The changes have come as a surprise after Annastacia Palaszczuk emphatically rejected opposition calls for her to sack her embattled Health Minister during last week’s sitting of state parliament.
