A Gold Coast man who was shot several times by police after he allegedly rushed at them with a knife will face court next month.
The 29-year-old has been issued with a notice to appear on one count each of serious assault police officer, going armed so as to cause fear, possession of a knife in a public place and possess utensils or pipes.
It comes after he allegedly lunged at officers with a knife whilst they were conducting a welfare check at a home on Bellagio Crescent in Coomera on August 21.
“Upon arrival, officers were allegedly confronted by a man armed with a knife,” Queensland Police said.
“Negotiators were notified to attend the scene and speak with the man.
“The 29-year-old allegedly advanced at officers and was subsequently shot just after 4pm”.
The Coomera man taken was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition, however, he has since improved after undergoing surgery and is now stable.
He is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on October 5.
The Ethical Standards Command investigation remains ongoing.
