The driver of the ute, a 20-year-old man from Nerang, suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

The three passengers of the Hilux sustained minor injuries and were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

While the driver and two passengers in the Kia Carnival managed to escape uninjured.

The Forensic Crash Unit has now launched an investigation, with detectives appealing for anyone with information or dashcam vision to come forward.
