A Gold Coast man charged over an alleged stabbing in Brisbane’s south last month has had his charges upgraded after the victim died in hospital.

A 33-year-old man suffered critical stab wounds following an alleged altercation at a unit on Lyon Street in Moorooka around 8.30pm on Friday, May 20.

He was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, where he has since passed away as a result of his injuries.

The 20-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

However, the Gold Coast man has now had his charges upgraded to one count each of murder and unlawful possession of weapons after the victim died in hospital.

He will face the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Investigations into the incident continue, with detectives appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage in the vicinity of Lyon Street on the evening of May 20 to come forward.
