Operation Clean Up has been launched as the Gold Coast turns its attention to recovery, two weeks on from the severe storms and flooding event.

Residents in areas badly hit by the weather events can now find out when kerbside pick-up will be in their street to get rid of debris, with details for Operation Clean Up now live on the council website.

It is estimated it will take more than 75,000 truckloads to remove the waste.

Mayor Tom Tate is vowing that no one will be forgotten.

“We have a plan and we are coming to help,” the Mayor says.

“The task ahead of us is mammoth with an unprecedented amount of green waste to be removed. The website gives storm-impacted residents notice of when we will be in their neighbourhood to clean up,

“The Operation Clean Up website will also show the progress of the pick-up and the areas our crews have already been through.”

Program Director Operation Clean Up, Ainslie Buffett, says residents who have storm debris and green waste on their property but are not on the list will be offered alternate options and support. That information will be placed on the website soon.

“When pick-up time comes, crews will first pick up the green waste and then in the following days pick up other storm debris,” Ms Buffett said.

“Residents in storm-affected areas should regularly check the website,

“Before the estimated pick up date, they should ensure their green waste and other storm debris is placed on the kerb and separated.”

It comes as power has now been fully restored across all southeast Queensland homes, with the last homes having their lights come back on last night.

Council is also now processing more than 74,000 applications for grants for residents whose homes or businesses have suffered severe damage.

“If you’re confused about it and need help, go to the hubs and speak to Council officers who are handling these grants,” the Mayor says.

“They are up to date on what other grants are available.”
