The move to electric vehicles is well and truly on with one Gold Coast postcode topping the list for the highest ownership in the state.
According to the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), the postcode of 4217, which takes in Surfers Paradise, Bundall, Benowa and Main Beach ranked number one in Queensland for EV registrations.
The area has 184 EVs registered, making it the third-highest postcode in the whole country.
Four other Gold Coast suburbs were ranked in the top ten.
The postcode of 4212, taking in Helensvale, Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove ranked sixth in the state with 136 EVs registered.
This was followed by 4215 (Labrador, Southport) at number seven with 134 EVs, and 4218 (Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach) at number eight with 122.
Rounding out the top ten areas in the state was postcode 4216, covering Biggera Waters, Coombabah, Hollywell, Paradise Point and Runaway Bay which has 104 electric vehicles registered.
“Gold Coast motorists are really embracing the transition to EVs with more now registered in the city than anywhere else in the south east,” RACQ’s Head of Public Policy Dr Michael Kane said.
“We know Gold Coasters love their idyllic, outdoors lifestyle so it’s great to see more motorists there making the transition to low-emission, environmentally friendly car ownership.”
