The very welcome winter dry spell is about to come to a shuddering halt with another rain event set to hit the Gold Coast in the coming days.
Unseasonal wet weather is heading our way with widespread rainfall totals in excess of 150mm for many parts of Queensland.
Almost 120mm of rain is forecast for the Gold Coast between Friday and Monday alone and that is expected to continue well into the week.
That rain is also expected to spread into parts of northern New South Wales.
An upper trough is expected to move over Central Australia on Wednesday and reach southwestern Queensland by Friday.
The Bureau is forecasting that trough to move slowly eastward on Saturday, likely deepening a surface trough near the east Queensland coast.
While there’s plenty of uncertainty about the development of these systems, BOM is predicting a high to very high chance of rain, overcast conditions and well below average temps in the southeast.
We’ll start to see a bit of rain on Friday with around 8mm predicted, but that will really kick off on Saturday with up to 25mm forecast for the Gold Coast.
Another 35mm is forecast for Sunday but increasing again on Monday with up to 50mm of rain expected to fall.
