Beaches south of Burleigh Heads are open for swimmers again today after days of closures and wild weather.
Abnormally high tides and strong winds have once again wreaked havoc on the coast line, as a result of ex-tropical cyclone Seth.
As conditions start to ease throughout today and into tomorrow, lifeguards are keeping a close eye on conditions.
They’ve decided to reopen beaches south of Burleigh this morning, and will review beaches north of Miami around midday.
While council crews have been quick to get out and assess the damage.
Mayor Tom Tate says we’re well prepared for these freak weather events and the beaches held up pretty well this time.
“After ex-tropical cyclone Seth had a visit of the Gold Coast, we’re getting debris out of the waterways, we’re make our entries to our beaches safe at every access point.
“Then after that we’ll do the scarping.
“The recovery of our beaches has begun, and to all the southerners and locals wanting to use our beach – just give us a couple of days and it’ll get back to normal.
“The swell has gone down quite substantially in the last two days but it’s still hazardous.
“So please, ask the lifeguards, some beaches will still be closed especially in the north,” Mayor Tom Tate said on Wednesday morning.
Beaches south of Burleigh will be open for swimming today – please only swim in patrolled areas between the red and yellow flags.
