Residents of an apartment complex in Merrimac have had an early wake-up call after a blaze broke out inside one of the units.

The fire erupted in the roof area of an apartment on Bourton Road around 5am on Friday.

The 20-unit complex had to be evacuated while multiple crews battled the flames, which they managed to extinguish by 5.25am.

Several properties are believed to have suffered smoke damage as a result.

However, thankfully no one was injured.
