Bus commuters across the Gold Coast and Tweed are being warned of interruptions to their Monday commute, with drivers set to walk off the job.
Around 10 per cent of drivers will be taking part in protected action between 9.45am and 5.45pm on Monday June 6 amid an ongoing wage dispute.
Kinetic, the operators of Surfside buses, has agreed to an 8.2 percent pay increase but drivers are still working to negotiate an additional pay increase as part of a multi-year agreement.
Tweed services will see the most disruption, including for some afternoon school services. The Gold Coast isn’t expected to see a substantial impact but there could still be some delays.
A Kinetic spokesperson has urged commuters to allow extra time for their journey.
“It is disappointing this protected action will occur given our ongoing negotiations and the above CPI pay-rise provided in February 2023 to support our team and alleviate cost of living pressures,” they said in a statement.
“While the majority of Gold Coast and Tweed bus drivers will not be participating in this action it will cause disruption to passenger services and Kinetic sincerely apologises to passengers and the community.”
