Two teens, one as young as 13, have been charged with attempted murder after a Gold Coast shopping centre security guard was attacked with a meat cleaver.
The 57-year-old male was slashed with the weapon at Westfield Helensvale around 7.45am today, after a group of eight people were asked to leave the centre.
He suffered significant wounds to his abdomen, legs and arms with paramedics noting he’s lucky to have survived his injuries.
Those involved in the shocking attack allegedly fled the scene in a stolen black Holden Trax.
Police tracked the vehicle to Distillery Road at Beenleigh around 8.35am with four people, aged between 13 and 19, taken into custody.
It will be further alleged the Holden Trax was stolen yesterday after three males assaulted a woman and stole her keys in a business carpark at Mount Warren in Logan.
A 19-year-old Oxenford man has been charged with on count each of attempted murder, robbery with violence, attempt to enter premises and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, August 26.
A 13-year-old Upper Coomera girl has been charged with attempted murder and will appear at Southport Childrens Court tomorrow, August 26.
The security guard remains at the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Further suspects are expected to be charged over the coming days.
