Gold Coasters may want to keep the umbrella handy, with the city expected to cop a drenching over the next few days.

Around 100 millimetres of rain has been forecast to fall across the Coast over the next 48 hours.

Today is expected to be the wettest, with anywhere between 20-60mm possible.

The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed there’s also the chance of a thunderstorm, with possible “heavy falls” in the south.

Another 35mm has been forecast for tomorrow, before showers continue for the rest of the week.

It comes after a massive rain band dumped up to 50 millimetres of rain on some parts overnight.

The wet weather is being caused by a slow-moving trough making its way across the south east.
