Three teenager have been charged, while one remains on the run, following an armed crime spree on the Gold Coast and Logan.
The gang of four boys, who are known to police, are accused of being involved in two armed robberies at 7/11’s in Logan around 3.30am Sunday morning.
They allegedly threatened staff with firearms and got away with wads of cash in a stolen Audi.
The stolen car was then spotted in and around Logan and the Gold Coast before it smashed into the rear of a vehicle on Foxwell Road in Coomera just before 10am Sunday.
One of the boys in the car ran off into a bush while armed with a rifle, and police managed to nab him.
The Audi fled the scene with three boys still inside, leading officers on a wild car chase north on the M1 before they were eventually brought to a halt in Logan.
Acting Chief Superintendent Geoff Sheldon has told the ABC a baby was injured during their antics.
“Two people jumped out on foot and whilst running away, knocked over a lady who was carrying a baby and the baby got a small cut to its head, “Acting Chief Superintendent Sheldon says.
“It was just one of those horrible things, it just kept going and going one after another.”
Along with the rifle, the gang were also allegedly found to have two gel-blaster guns on them.
Police admit the antics are very concerning, but that officers are improving and changing their tactics to take these criminals down.
“The great thing is we’re getting so good at it, to put it bluntly,” Acting Chief Superintendent Sheldon says.
“We are getting used to how to track stolen vehicles, how to do it safely with a minimum of injury to anyone and this is a good example where whilst there was a small collision with one car, no one’s been hurt other than the child getting knocked over, the poor thing,
“But we’re doing it far safer now, with community safety in mind. There is no death penalty for unlawful use of a motor vehicle. You don’t chase it and crash and die. We simply deploy the tire deflation devices if it’s safe, and if it’s not, well that’s your good luck and we’ll let you go.”
The Audi has been reported stolen from a Clover Way property in Helensvale on Saturday night.
Two 15-year-old boys and one 14-year-old boy have been charged with a string of serious offences.
One boy is yet to be tracked down, however police say they know who he is and expect to arrest him today.
