A 75-year-old man has been charged with over 70 sexual assault offences, including indecent treatment of children and rape.

It’s alleged the offences occurred on the Gold Coast while the man was a serving Queensland Police officer between 1995 and 2002.

He’s facing 72 offences including 66 counts of indecent treatment of children, four counts of rape and two counts of common assault.

The charges follow a lengthy investigation by the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit.

He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court in August.
