The state government is under increasing pressure to release the findings of an investigation into last year’s flooding event on the southern Gold Coast.

It’s been almost 12 months since a slow-moving system dumped hundreds of millimetres of rain on the city.

Homes and businesses in suburbs including Elanora, Palm Beach and Tallebudgera were inundated during the downpour.

Locals have been demanding answers ever since, with specialists called in by the government to assess whether the construction works on the M1 contributed to the flooding.

Currumbin MP Laura Gerber says the government needs to come clean.

“One year on, our community is still in the dark and the Palaszczuk Labor Government has failed to listen to residents’ concerns,” Mrs Gerber said.

“The State Government promised to consult and release the findings after October, but five months on and we’re still waiting.

“Why won’t they consult or release the findings, is it because they know their project is to blame?”

A community rally will be held at Nineteenth Avenue Park in Elanora from 9am on Saturday.

Ms Gerber is calling on Transport Minister Mark Bailey to front residents and reveal the findings of the investigation.

“Locals deserve the truth.

“They deserve certainty that everything is being done to prevent flooding like this in the future.”

Minister Bailey’s office has been contacted for comment.
