Residents across Brisbane have woken to a thick layer of fog blanketing the city this morning.

It’s causing chaos for Brisbane Airport, where visibility dropped to just 50 metres a short time ago.

The heavy fog is preventing all aircraft from landing at Brisbane Airport.

As a result, flights are currently being diverted to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, while others are in holding patterns as they wait for conditions to improve.

Authorities are also urging motorists to take it easy on the roads, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a road weather alert for Brisbane.

“Reduced visibility in fog will make road conditions dangerous during Friday morning in the Brisbane Area, mainly through the inner, southern and western suburb,” BOM said.
