A female firefighter has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition following a ferocious factory fire at Slacks Creek.
Up to 20 fire crews remain on scene battling the large blaze, which erupted at a factory near the Pacific Highway around 2.30am this morning.
A second female firefighter has been hospitalised with serious injuries, while a male firefighter has been taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Authorities are urging residents in the area to close all windows and doors due to thick plumes of smoke billowing over the suburb.
“There is a large amount of smoke in the surrounding area, including Springwood,” a Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson said.
“Those suffering from a respiratory condition should also keep medications close by”.
Smoke haze is also affecting motorists on the M1, with heavier than usual delays from Beenleigh to Springwood.
“Motorists are urged to drive with caution and to the conditions,” QFES said.
A crime scene has been declared, however, it’s not known at this stage exactly what sparked the blaze.
Investigations are underway.
