LATEST @ 5.55 PM | Fire investigators will probe the cause of a large blaze at a caravan park on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

A caravan and a separate demountable erupted into flames at the Nerang Caravan Park around 3.45pm on Monday, sending plumes of thick black smoke billowing over the suburb.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson told myGC that both structures were “well involved” when they arrived.

The blaze has since been extinguished.

Five people were assessed at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation but fortunately did not need to be taken to hospital.

It’s not yet known what sparked the blaze, with investigators to head back to the scene in the morning.

Witnesses have told myGC the smoke can be seen from the M1.

At least three fire crews are on scene at the moment working to extinguish the flames.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson said the vehicle was well involved when they arrived.

Five people are being assessed at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
