Police have today confirmed they are investigating a boat crash in a passage near Jacobs Well on the Gold Coast that left one man dead, and another injured.
A tinny is believed to have hit a channel marker in the Canaipa Passage between Short Island and North Stradbroke Island yesterday around 11am.
A 30-year-old Brisbane man, who was a passenger in the tinny, was tragically killed in the crash.
The driver of the boat, a 52-year-old Edens Landing man, was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital with facial injuries.
Malcolm Schmidt from Volunteer Marine Rescue told Seven News he admits the incident is strange.
“For the consequences of this happening, yes people do hit beacons at different times for different reasons,” Mr Schmidt says.
“But something like this is very unusual. ”
Investigations into exactly how the incident unfolded are ongoing.
