A number of Supercars took over the Sundale Bridge today as excitement builds for next weekend’s Gold Coast 500.
There are just eight days to go until on-track action kicks off for the annual event, held from 27-29 October.
Cars driven by local drivers from each of Queensland’s four Supercars teams lapped the iconic bridge leading into the historic street race event this morning, giving locals a thrill.
The Ford Mustang of Anton De Pasquale (Stapylton-based Dick Johnson Racing) was flanked by the Chevrolet Camaros of Broc Feeney (Banyo’s Triple Eight Race Engineering), Jack Le Brocq (Yatala’s Matt Stone Racing), and James Golding (Arundel’s PremiAir Racing) as the quartet motored up and down the Gold Coast Highway.

Last year’s Gold Coast 500 event welcomed more than 200,000 event-goers, which was the biggest crowd in over a decade.
Tourism and Sport Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe says the Gold Coast is ready to welcome even more motorsport fans to the region for the iconic event.
“The Gold Coast always lights up when the Supercars roll into town for what is the ultimate party round of the championship series,” Minister Hinchcliffe says.
“More than 200,000 motorsport fans are expected to snake around Australia’s most picturesque racetrack across the weekend, which will generate around $55 million for the local visitor economy,
“Twenty thousand fans will travel from out of town and interstate, with many staying on to explore all this magnificent region has to offer.”
The four Supercars will be joined by 21 others when on-track action at the Surfers Paradise street circuit begins next Friday.
It’s set to be a huge weekend of action and entertainment, including live music acts all three nights, with the likes of The Presets, Client Liaison, Mashd N Kutcher, and Illy among the artists set to take centre stage on Macintosh Island.
