LATEST @ August 24 | An elderly woman has died following a horror crash with a truck in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
The 80-year-old was travelling along Tamborine Oxenford Road in Wongawallan around 10am on Wednesday when police say her vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road.
She then collided with a truck, trapping her behind the wheel of her car.
Emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to free the woman from the vehicle before rushing her to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious pelvic and leg injuries.
Despite desperate efforts by doctors, the woman could not be saved and died shortly after arrival.
The driver of the truck, a 28-year-old Mermaid Beach man, suffered minor injuries, while his two passengers managed to escape unharmed.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman reportedly in her 70s, became trapped behind the wheel and has suffered a significant leg injury.
She’s been rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
The road has been blocked in both directions with significant delays.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
