LATEST @ 5.30 PM | An elderly man has died in a hiking tragedy at a popular waterfall in the Gold Coast hinterland this afternoon.
The 79-year-old is believed to have slipped while walking along a track in Purling Brook Falls at Springbrook National Park just after midday on Thursday.
It’s understood the man was with his two daughters when he lost his footing and fell around 25 metres.
One of his daughters tried to climb down to render assistance to her father, but sadly, he could not be revived.
The woman had to be winched out by the rescue chopper.
She was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.
Investigations into the tragedy are continuing.
EARLIER @ 2.30 PM | Grave fears are being held for an elderly man who has fallen around 25 metres at a popular waterfall in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Paramedics were winched down to the man, who had suffered critical injuries in the fall.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said no transport to hospital had been made.
It’s understood the man had been walking with his two daughters at the time.
