LATEST @ 1.00 PM | Police have confirmed a man has died following a horror truck crash on the Pacific Motorway this morning.
A b-double was travelling northbound through Gaven around 6am when the vehicle lost control and ploughed into the centre median strip.
Paramedics believe the driver of the truck, a man aged in his 50s, may have suffered a medical episode behind the wheel.
Despite desperate efforts by emergency crews, he could not be revived and sadly died at the scene.
The crash sent peak-hour traffic into chaos, with lengthy delays in both directions for a large part of the morning as Forensic Crash Unit investigators combed the scene.
As investigations continue, police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
They’re also appealing for anyone with dash-cam to contact them as they try and piece together the moments leading up to the fatal accident.
EARLIER @ 6.30 AM | Motorists travelling on the Pacific Motorway this morning are being warned to brace for massive delays following a serious truck crash.
It’s believed the driver of a b-double may have suffered a suspected medical episode before losing control in the northbound lanes at Gaven just after 6am.
The truck then veered through the median strip and into the southbound lanes, miraculously missing any other cars.
Firefighters and paramedics are now frantically working to free the driver, who remains behind the wheel.
Traffic is at a complete standstill in both directions, with drivers being urged to avoid the area.
“Motorists are advised of delays on the M1 northbound at Gaven near exit 62 due to a single vehicle truck crash,” Queensland Police posted.
“Drivers are advised to use caution near the crash site and take alternative routes where possible”.
