A manhunt is underway after the occupants of a sedan allegedly fled the scene of a nasty crash in Southport.

A large ute was travelling through the intersection of North Street and Scarborough Street around 10.15pm on Monday when it was allegedly struck by a Holden Commodore.

There are reports the Commodore may have run a red light just before the collision.

Police confirmed the occupants of the sedan fled the scene on foot before emergency crews arrived on scene.

“Officers patrolled the nearby area, however, were unable to locate any persons,” Queensland Police said.

They remain on the run this morning, with investigations ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
