Driver hit by car on M1 in freak kangaroo accident

A man has been injured in a freak kangaroo accident on the Pacific Motorway.

The man was travelling southbound at Helensvale around 9pm on Monday when he struck a kangaroo that had jumped onto the M1.

It’s understood the man, aged in his 30s, then got out of his vehicle to assess the damage to his car when he was struck by a passing vehicle.

The man suffered abdominal, back, and arm injuries.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
