A man’s been arrested following a high-impact crash that brought down power lines in Southport.

The Ford Ranger ploughed into a power pole on High Street around 7.40 last night, with the impact snapping the pole.

Police allege the 28-year-old behind the wheel was drug-driving and took him into custody at the scene.

The crash forced the roadway to be closed, with police having to divert traffic.

Energex crews worked overnight and through the morning to construct a new power pole.

Police confirmed the driver has been served a notice to appear for drug-driving.

He was not physically injured.
