A car thief remains on the run after allegedly stealing a man’s four-wheel drive while he was out for a surf in Tweed Heads.
The brazen daylight car theft occurred at Durnabah Beach on Sunday afternoon.
The man is alleged to have stolen a set of keys while a surfer was out in the water before jumping behind the wheel of the Toyota Prado.
The vehicle then mounted the footpath and sped off, narrowly missing surfers and pedestrians, including a man with a pram, as it drove erratically to make its getaway.
