UPDATE @ 9.45am | A man has now being charged with a string of offences after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen ute across the northern Gold Coast.

Police will allege the man broke into a business on Hilldon Court, Nerang around 4.50pm on Sunday and stole a 2016 Toyota Hilux.

Emergency services were alerted and were able to locate the vehicle, which was then tracked by PolAir along Kopps Road at Oxenford.

Officers continued to track the vehicle for some time before it entered a complex on Siganto Drive in Helensvale with the man inside then running off on foot.

The Dog Squad was called in and found the man on the nearby Gwydir Court, where he was taken into custody.

The 30-year-old Coomera man has since been charged with two counts of trespass, and one count each of enter premises and commit, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, serious assault police, stealing.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

EARLIER: A man has been taken into custody after a stolen car chase across the Gold Coast.

The Toyota Hilux is alleged to have been taken from a business in Nerang on Sunday.

Officers then spotted the vehicle around 5pm and began tracking it across the city before it was located ditched near Siganto Drive in Helensvale around 7pm.

The driver had fled on foot and the Dog Squad was called in to track them down.

A man was found near Gwydir Court around 20 minutes later and taken in to custody. He is yet to be charged.
