The Mayor’s hopes of the Gold Coast hosting another Commonwealth Games could be decided today.

The Mayor is preparing to hold a meeting with Commonwealth Games leaders on the Gold Coast on Monday to present a feasibility study on the 2026 project.

The report will suggest the sporting spectacle can be held for around $700 million by not having logistically difficult events like the marathon or an athlete’s village.

It will also propose a $2 billion economic return for the economy.

However, the Mayor admits it won’t be easy getting the Queensland Government’s approval, with the Premier refusing to even look at the business case.

The State Government has previously declared its focus is on preparing for the 2032 Olympics.

The Mayor’s bid comes three months after former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews sensationally pulled out of hosting the 2026 event due to cost blowouts.
