Dredging work will get under in the Gold Coast Broadwater in a bid to improve access and safety for marine vessels.
Crews will remove a massive 20,000m3 over the next few months with a focus on the South Wave Break Island Channel.
Monitoring of the channel by Gold Coast Waterways has found the channel depths are ‘less than desired.’
The Authority plans to return the channel to its ‘desired depth’ for both recreational and commercial vessels.
The dredged sand will be used to help replenish the foreshore around the Broadwater
The operation is set to be completed by August.
Boaties are being urged to take care near dredging works while they’re also being warned some navigational aids may be used.
Access to the Broadwater foreshore may be restricted at various times over the next couple of months as replenishment work is done at Marine Parade Labrador, Broadwater Tourist Park, Wave Break Island and Biggera Waters.
