A man accused of leading police on an unusual slow-speed chase down the M1 will front court for the first time today.

The 33-year-old was spotted driving dangerously in a white Mitsubishi Triton at Yatala around 8.15am on Monday.

The police chopper was called in to keep an eye on the vehicle as it continued to head south along the M1.

Officers then deployed road spikes at Reedy Creek, but the ute continued to travel on its rims at slow speed.

Police formed a rolling blockade behind the vehicle in a bid to keep other cars away, before the ute eventually came to a crashing stop at Palm Beach.

The driver, from Capalaba, was taken into custody at the scene before being taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

He has since been chared with a string of offences includingdangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, evasion offence damages property, driving motor vehicle without a driver licence and Fraud – dishonesty make off without paying.

He was also issued two traffic infringement notices, including drive/park or permit drive/park defective vehicle that does not comply with vehicle standards and injurious matter on road.

The man is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
